Dear Colleagues:
The Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM), a uniqueinternational contest for high school students and college undergraduates, willhold its
27th annualcompetition in February 2011. Last
year,2254 teams from 802 institutions in fourteen
countries participated in the contest. The MCM is
designed to stimulate and improveproblem-
solving and writingskills in mathematics. Students
participate as team members rather than as individuals,creating an environment for sharing
knowledgeand skills.
亲爱的参赛选手：
第27届国际数学建模竞赛（MCM）将于2011年2月举行，该赛事是面向大学生和高中生的国际性赛事！去年，来自14个国家的802个院校共2254个团队参加了竞赛。MCM旨在激励与提高学生应用数学解决实际问题的能力和写作能力。学生需组队参与，以便形成一个共同分享知识与能力的团队环境。
Your institution may take part in the MCM effort
by encouraging a member of yourdepartment to
serve as a faculty advisor and by promoting theparticipation of faculty and students from
associated departments. Advisors help organize the
teams, distribute contest materials,and return solution **s to COMAP.

The Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM),
an international contest for highschool students
and college undergraduates, will hold its 13th
annualcompetition in February 2011. Last year,
356 teams from 115 institutions in four countriesparticipated in the contest. ICM is designed to
develop and advance interdisciplinary
problem-solvingskills as well as competence in

MCM and ICM are parallel contests and follow the same rules.
All the information listed below, except where noted,pertains to both contests

Contest Date and Time: The 2011 contests must be
accomplished at a local facilitystarting at 8:01 PM EST on
Thursday,February 10, 2011 and ending at 8:00 PM EST
on Monday, February 14, 2011.
竞赛的时间日期：2011年美国大学生数学建模竞赛将于：2011年2月10号晚上8:01分（美国东部时间）~~2011年2月14号晚上8:00（美国东部时间）举行，比赛的地点为当地的院校！
Each team is required to submit an electronic copy of its
solution ** by email
tosolutions@comap.com. The
advisoror any team member may submit this email.
每个队都必须通过email将论文电子副本提交到solutions@comap.com.。此任务可由负责老师或组员完成。
Your email MUST be received at COMAP by the sub-
mission deadline of 8:00 PM EST onFebruary 14, 2011. Faculty advisors must ensure that no furthermodifications,enhancements, additions, or improvements may be madeto the team’ssolution ** after this email submission.
COMAP must
thenreceive your Printed Solution Packet
viamail on or before Friday, February 25, 2011.
论文邮件必须在提交截止日（2011年2月14日美国东部时间晚8:00）到达官方指定的提交邮箱.学校负责老师必须确保电子论文提交后不会再变更、美化、添加或进行其他修改。此外，参赛队伍必须保证组委会能够在美国时间2011年2月25日（周五）收到各队邮寄的装有纸制论文的包裹。
The Contest Materials: The contest Website contains all
the guidelines, requirements,judging criteria, and
suggested procedures for the submissionof solution
**s, including step-by-stepinstructions.
No materials will be available in any other form.
竞赛资料：
竞赛网站有各类指导，要求，评判标准，及提交论文的方法步骤（包括详细指导），其他的资料都不具有官方性质。
On Thursday, February 10 at 8:00 PM EST, the contestproblems will be posted on the contest Website.
竞赛题目将于2月10日（周四）美国东部时间晚上8:00发布于官方网站。
The Advisors: Advisors inform students about thiscompetition and encourage the formulation of teams.Advisors may guide andrehearse the team prior to the
beginningof the competition.
负责老师：负责老师可以给学生宣传有关本次比赛，鼓励学生组队，同时负责老师可在竞赛开始前指导并排练。
During the competition, the students are expected to developall of the substantive analysis without the help of
others.
竞赛中，学生应该独立完成论文，不能和本队以外的人进行探讨。
Registration of Teams: All teams must register online on
or before February 10, 2011 at 2:00PM EST.
团队注册：各组必须在2011年2月10日

A $100 registration fee must be paid at registration
online in order to participate.

The MCM and ICM contests now allow unlimited teams
per institution, with unlimitedteams per department.Each team consists of up to three high school orundergraduate students who are enrolled
in school at the
time ofthe contest.
现在，MCM和ICM对每个学校的参数队伍不做限制，每个院系也不限组数。
但是每个队伍最多由3名在校高中生或在校大学生组成。
Team members do not need to be named at the time of registration,but they must be determined
beforethe
contest problems are read.

The Contest Problems: Teams will choose one of three
modeling problems:
MCM Problem A (continuous) or
MCM Problem B (discrete)
ICM Problem C (interdisciplinary)
竞赛题：每队可以选择以下问题三者之一：

ICM题C（交叉学科）
Data, if needed, will be attached to the problem oravailable on the contest Website.

The Report: Participants may use all the resources availablesuch as computers, libraries, software packages,Internet, or any otherinanimate sources.

Problems are designed to be open-ended and are unlikely
to have a unique solution.
问题设置的比较开放，没有唯一答案。
Attention must be focused on clarity, analysis, and design
of the solution.

The narrative section of the solution **s must be typed
and in English. Partial solutionsare acceptable.Two copies of each ** must be submitted.
参赛论文的正文必须是英文版本。即使是一个不完整的解决问题的方案也可以提交。每个论文要提交两个副本。
Results: Judging will be completed by April 2011.Teamsolutions will be designated as Successful
Participant, Honorable Mention, Meritorious, Finalist,orOutstanding.
结果：评判将于2011年4月完成。团队论文将分别以成功参赛者，荣誉奖，功勋奖，入围奖与杰出奖编档。
The results will be posted on COMAP’s Website.Certificatesand press releases will be mailed or emailed
by May 2011.

Outstanding teams will have their solution **s publishedin The UMAP Journal.
杰出团队的方案论文将在UMAP杂志上发表。
Prizes: The Institute for Operations Research and the
Management Sciences (INFORMS) willdesignate an
Outstanding Teamfrom each of the three problems as an
INFORMSwinner.

The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics(SIAM)will designate one Outstanding Team from each
problem as a SIAM winner.
