Insolidarity and sympathy with Chinese students and colleagues as they deal withthe coronavirus outbreak, COMAP has decided to offer an alternate entrance intoMCM/ICM for this year.
In an effort to accommodate allstudents/teams we will be breaking the MCM/ICM competition into 2 contestweekends. Teams may choose from either Weekend 1: February 13-17, 2020 orWeekend 2: March 5-9, 2020. You are NOT required to choose a weekend prior tothe contest start. Each weekend will offer a selection of different problems.However, teams may only submit a solution during one weekend and to only oneproblem.
All teams must be registered by theregistration deadline of 3:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, February 13,2020 regardless of the weekend they plan to compete. Teams thathave already registered and received a team number/control number DONOT need to re-register.
Weekend 1 will be February 13-17, 2020 solutions will be dueon February 17th
Weekend 1 will include 3 problemoptions. MCM Problem A, ICM Problem D & ICM Problem E.

The judging process is unchanged for2020 and the papers are judged on their merit and given the appropriateranking. The ratio of the rankings are not predetermined and are based on thequality of the submissions for that given year. The designations and awardsfrom previous years will be unchanged for 2020.
Becauseof this year’s extraordinary circumstances we will not penalize teams forcommunicating with each other online or through the use web chat apps. We dohowever want to make it clear that this is for communication among team membersonly and NOT for communication with other teams or any person outside of theteam. It is the responsibility of the teams to keep their communicationsprivate and not post any information in an open or public venue. All currentrules will still be in effect and all team members must still be from the sameinstitution. COMAP will continue to monitor these sites before, during andafter the contest.
Wehope that this alternate date will allow for more student teams affected bypublic health measures to participate.

I submitted my solution via email and it still shows as Electronic Solution Received: (not yet received) why?
The solution submission status will not be updated until the contest deadline has passed.
Weekend 1 Deadline: 9:00 p.m. EST on Monday, February 17, 2020.
Weekend 2 Deadline: 9:00 p.m. EST on Monday, March 9, 2020.
You gave a new format of the summary sheet for the 2020 MCM/ICM contest. I want to ask if we could use the 2019 summary sheet.
Yes you can use the old 2019 summary sheet just be sure to change the date to 2020. If we click “submit final solution paper” by accident what should we do?
You do not need to do anything that is just for your reference and it will not affect the outcome of your submission. Will the Weekend 2 dates in March be postponed or changed?
We have made every effort toaccommodate all the teams/students but the Weekend 2 dates (March 5-9, 2020)will not be postponed or changed.
Do I need to login and declare my weekend?
We have added a problem option Wknd2 butyou are not required to make a choice. Once Weekend 2 starts you will have tologin and make your Weekend 2 problem choice.
I have started work during Weekend 1 and chosen a problem but I have decided towait for Weekend 2. What should I do?
You do not need to do anything butyou can if you choose login to the website and change your problem choiceto Wknd2.
I have already registered do I needto register again for Weekend 2?
NO, if you have already registeredyou do not need to register again. You can login and turn in a solution paperduring Weekend 1 or you can login and turn in a solution paper during Weekend2.
Can I view the problems in Weekend 1 before committing to Weekend 2?
YES, you can view the problems onWeekend 1 and not submit a solution, and then wait for Weekend 2. If you dochose to wait for Weekend 2, you must choose a problem and submit a solutionduring Weekend 2. You cannot go back to Weekend 1 after the submissiondeadline.
Can I submit a solution to both weekends?
NO, students are only allowed toparticipate on 1 team and submit a solution to only 1 weekend. Teams mustsubmit papers by the deadlines associated with their selected problem weekend.
Can I form 2 teams and compete both weekends?
NO, students are only allowed toparticipate on 1 team and submit a solution to only 1 problem during 1 weekend.
How do I choose Weekend 1 or Weekend 2?
Your choice is dictated by theproblem you choose. Weekend 1 includes MCM Problem A, ICM Problem D, & ICMProblem E. Weekend 2 includes MCM Problem B, MCM Problem C, & ICM ProblemF. If a team submits a solution to a problem during Weekend 1, they cannotsubmit a solution during Weekend 2.
When will the contest results be announced?
Both weekends will be announcedtogether and will be posted on or before April 30, 2020.
When is the registration deadline?
All teams must be registered by theregistration deadline of 3:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, February 13, 2020regardless of the weekend they plan to compete. Late registrations will not beallowed.
Will these changes continue for MCM/ICM 2021 and beyond?
NO, this change will only happenthis year to help student/teams affected by public health measures toparticipate.
If my team cannot meet in the same location to work on the contest problem, can wemeet using electronic communications?
YES, this year you are allowed towork with your team virtually using electronic means. BUT, you may onlycommunicate with members of your own team. The rule remains that teams may notuse any persons, other than their own team members, to discuss or obtain ideasfor working on and solving their problem.
